About Chiltern
Major-development standards, applied to your project.
Chiltern Refurb & Project Management was established to bring the management standards, systems and attention to detail of major residential developments into private residential construction, for homeowners, investors, developers and landowners across London and Hertfordshire.
01Our story
Why Chiltern exists.
Years on major residential developments show you what good construction management looks like, and what happens without it.
Poorly managed building work tends to fail in the same ways: weak communication, inadequate planning, poor quality, uncontrolled costs and programmes that continually slip. Chiltern was set up to be part of changing that.
Chiltern is a professional residential construction and project delivery business, not simply another local builder. Every project is approached as a managed construction project, with the programme, inspections, cost awareness, health and safety and reporting you would expect on a major development.
We work with homeowners, property investors, developers and landowners across London, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas, from early design and planning through construction to handover. Our typical construction projects start from approximately £20,000.
| Common problem | How it is managed |
|---|---|
| Weak communication | Regular, clear reporting on progress, programme, cost and decisions. |
| Inadequate planning | Design coordination, buildability review and a sequenced programme before work starts. |
| Poor quality | Work inspected stage by stage against the drawings and specification. |
| Uncontrolled costs | Cost awareness from design onwards, so decisions are made with the budget in view. |
| Programmes that continually slip | A managed construction programme with trades coordinated as one project. |

03How we work
Six things we manage on every project.
These are the standards major residential developments are held to. Chiltern applies them to every project, whatever its size.
01
Quality
Work inspected stage by stage against the drawings and specification, not only at the end.
02
Programme
A realistic construction programme, properly sequenced and actively managed.
03
Cost
Cost awareness from design onwards, so decisions are made with the budget in view.
04
Safety
Health and safety planned and managed for everyone on site and everyone living around it.
05
Communication
Clear, regular updates on progress, decisions and anything that affects programme or cost.
06
Accountability
One point of responsibility for the whole project, from the first conversation to handover.
04Who we work with
Professional enough for an investor. Approachable enough for a homeowner.
We work across London, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas, on substantial residential projects rather than small handyman works.
Homeowners
Extensions, loft conversions, refurbishments and new homes, managed so you are not left coordinating trades.
Property investors
Refurbishment and development delivery planned around your exit strategy.
Developers
Construction and project management run with the systems of major developments.
Landowners
Early construction input and, where it suits both parties, joint ventures.
